BIRTH OF SPRING

According to Roman mythology, when Pluto, King of the Underworld claimed Persephone for his bride she was bound to return to the Underworld for six months of the year. During those months, Persephone’s mother, Ceres, goddess of nature, mourned and nature mourned with her: withering and dying. When Persephone returned to earth and her mother for six months of the year, nature sprang back to life. And so the seasons were born.

A TIME FOR CHANGE

Spring marks the end of winter and a time of natural growth and energy. Light hours change, the sap and sugars rise in plants, trees blossom and new buds emerge through the cool earth. A warm breath whispers in the air and colour bursts out of a monochrome winter canvas.
